Local Senior Brings Home the Gold
Local Overton resident Ron Johnson earned a gold medal in the Nevada Senior Olympics held this year. Johnson competed in doubles racketball with his playing partner Don Takahashi of Las Vegas.

From Progress: November 1, 2000
Logandale School Restoration Almost Complete
Members of the Old Logandale Historical and Cultural Society toured the building after hearing that the majority of the work would be completed by the end of November. A brief tour of the building showed that the sheetrock had been installed and rooms were ready to be painted. Windows have been installed and concrete is being replaced on the walkways outside. The final component, the floors, are expected to be finished in December, and the building will be opened in January.

Senior Swap Meet Draws Record Crowds
The recent swap meet held by the United Seniors in Overton was one of the most successful on record. The meet was set up in the Jim Boyles Senior Center parking lot, with Saturday morning pancake breakfast, bake sale, quilt raffle, as well as the sale of popcorn, coffee and hot dogs. Proceeds from the event will be used for operating expenses, maintenance, and repairs for the building.

Bowler Elementary Wins National Award
Grant M. Bowler Elementary has won a 1990 A+ Award for Excellence for a management program geared toward creating a more effective school. The award comes from the National Education Association and Ladies Home Journal Magazine.
“This year’s winners demonstrate the many ways educators across the country are innovating to improve the quality of education,” said Mary Mohler, managing editor of Ladies Home Journal magazine. “We salute their efforts.”
