The Moapa Valley High School Girls’ Golf Team recently won top academic honors at a state tournament in Elko, Nevada. Team members Molly Markenstein, Haley Causey, Hailey Neilson, Kalene Gongos, Allese Cameron, and Ravyn Davidson were recognized for maintaining the highest cumulative GPA of all 3A teams in the state at 3.76.
MVHS has not been able to assemble a girls’ golf team in recent years because teams are required to have at least four members. With only Haley Causey and Kalene Gongos on the team in the past few years, MVHS has been ineligible for recognition in team categories.
But that changed this season when MVHS was able to put together a strong team of up and coming golfers. Causey and Gongos were individual qualifiers along with three girls from Virgin Valley High School.
Coach Lorenzo Delgadillo said, “I’m proud of the girls for keeping their grades up all year. Academic excellence is important if you want to participate in any sport.”
Delgadillo credits the girls’ hard work and parent support for their success on and off the golf course.
