Two young Moapa Valley women have taken over the reins of Polish, a hair and nail salon located in Second Time Around, a consignment store at 3165 N. Moapa Valley Blvd., in Logandale.

Mckenzie Watts, 21, of Overton and Taylor Halstead, 19, of Logandale operate the salon Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering a variety of hair and nail treatments for both men and women. Watts is a cut and hair color specialist in the small business and Halstead works on nails.

Watts said that after graduating from the Paul Mitchell Beauty and Cosmetology School in St. George, Utah, in 2008 she first went to Las Vegas for work.

“I decided to look for something closer to Overton and when I walked in here, I knew this was home,” she said.

Halstead, who attended the Image Works Academy of Hair and Design in Spanish Fork, Utah, takes care of the nail business offering manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails and Diva Nails, a temporary alternative to the more permanent acrylics. She also specializes in Glitter Toes.

While both women have permanent clienteles and prefer appointments, “walk-ins are always welcome.”

Polish was originally opened by Nicole Temple, who manages Second Time Around.

Temple said working the salon and managing the consignment business, however, was soon overwhelming, so a decision was made to let someone else take over Polish and Watts and Halstead were a perfect fit.

In addition to regular cuts and color procedures, Watts said she had started offering a new hair treatment called Brazilian Blowout, an anti-frizz, protein treatment.

“We take everyone from kids to seniors, men and women, and we retail Paul Mitchell products and Woody’s products for men,” Watts said. “We also offer facial waxing.”

Haircut prices in Polish start at $10 for kids up to $25 for women; color treatments start at $55; extras run from $15 to $30, and the Brazilian Blowout starts at $100. Nail prices start at $25; a manicure is $18; pedicures run from $25 to $30, and Glitter Toes is between $15 and $18.
