OBITUARY: Dan Osborn

Dan Heath Osborn, age 93, died November 7, 2010 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born January 14, 1917 in Salina, Utah, a son of Robert Leroy and Joyce Clementine Heath Osborn. He graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1934. During this time, he was active in sport and the band. He attended Westminster College. He later relocated to southern California.

When the United States entered World War II, Dan enlisted in the Army Air Corp and trained to be a crew member in B-17 heavy bombers. He flew 28 combat missions over Germany.

After the war, he eventually worked for engineering companies, manufacturing high pressure vessels, retiring from Ralph M. Parsons Company in 1985.

Dan married Alice Hone Shaw, July 10, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She passed away October 1, 2006. Their marriage brought him to a large family, who loved this wonderful man.

Dan enjoyed sports, including playing some pro baseball and playing tennis. An avid fisherman, he and Alice spent many days terrorizing the fish in Lake Mead, always looking for “Walter”. He always looked forward to “going home” for the deer hunt. Playing cards with family and friends, was another favorite of his.

Dan and Alice later relocated to Overton, Nevada.

He was a member of VFW and a former member of the Salina Lion’s Club.

Dan was an American Patriot and a wonderful family patriarch. He will surely be missed.

He is survived by his step-children: Bernice and Gene Curtis of Overton, Nevada; Clair and Dora Shaw of Alamo, Nevada; Duane and Beverly Shaw of Las Vegas, Nevada; Rodger and Monica Shaw of Oroville, California; 10 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren and 39 step-great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother: Ada and Red Crawford of Orange, California; Eva Patterson of Centerfield; Rex Osborn of Payson, Arizona; niece and nephew: Nan Crawford Furbish of Austin, Texas; Charles and Joan Crawford of Sacramento, California.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Osborn; his parents; a brother, Lee Osborn; a step-son, VerLynn Shaw and a step-grandson, Craig Lau.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Community Living Center in Centerfield and the Gunnison Valley Hospital.

Funeral services were held November 12, 2010 in the Salina LDS Stake Center.

Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard was in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.On line guest book at: www.springerturner.com
