The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) office in Moapa Valley is giving new car seats to the parents of the first two babies born in 2011 at Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite.
Car seats are important equipment for parents and need to be installed and used correctly, said Penny Blair, UNCE child passenger safety technician in Moapa Valley. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says an estimated three of four car seats are installed and used incorrectly or parents are using the wrong seat based on their child’s height, weight and/or age.
A free car seat check up is scheduled Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. at the Primary Children’s WIC Clinic, 321 W. Mesquite Blvd., Suite 10. To make a check-up appointment call Blair at 702-397-2604, Ext. 3, or Marisela at 702-346-3030.
Additionally, UNCE has a limited number of new convertible and booster seats available for those who qualify, Blair said.
