2011 New Years Resolutions

By Catherine Ellerton

Moapa Valley Progress

When I accepted the assignment to poll people in Moapa Valley about their New Year Resolutions I thought, at first, that it would be quick. Over and done. One second flat. How wrong I was. Despite the rain and the last minute Christmas preparations, folks were very eager to discuss their resolutions.

I will confess I join with several who don’t make resolutions, or forget them as soon as they make them. But after talking with many celebrants, I have decided that I will make a resolution for 2011 – still thinking.

Talked with Cindy Magestro who had just come back from a cruise who eagerly advised me that they had planned on going through the Panama Canal but that it was closed down – first time in 50 years! They made other plans – she was still in cruise mode and would have to think further on the subject.

Caught up with Vic Erickson in Ace Hardware and he advised that he and his lovely bride, Lois, will be married 59 years in February. His resolution is “to take even better care of his bride.”

Local Real Estate lady, Elaine Chorlton, resolved to “To take a deep breath everyday and to make a daily affirmation.”

I end – still thinking.

Ladies of the Overton Post Office: Donna Noto, to eat healthier; Rhonda Gamboa “same ol same ol”; Melissa Earon resolved for better health; and Rosie Grove plans to get out of debt.

Caught in action at the Maverik, Tawnia Steffen at first couldn’t come up with a resolution but then quickly she added “To do the best I can for my family.”

Just as she prepared to conduct the recent Messiah Sing-a-long, Robin resolved to “get the community to sing at least once a day - in the shower - in the car - wherever.

Ron Dalley, the recently retired teacher resolved to “Try to exercise more.”
Don Dixon with wife, Nancy Jean resolved to “live at least to next year when he will be 84 years young and to be with his lovely wife.”
Local musicians/singers, Marni and Mel Brown, resolve to “have better health in 2011”.
Madelaine, Sydney and Kaleb Curtis: Madelaine was unsure of her resolution, Sydney plans to focus more on school and Kaleb was just enjoying the two weeks off from school
