OBITUARY: Pete Thouren

Peter Earl Thouren passed away quietly at his home in Logandale/Overton in the early morning hours of January 1st. 2011.

Pete was born March 27, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida and was adopted by Irene and Earl Thouren. They lived for several years in Berkley, California. In 1955 the family relocated to SanMateo, CA, which was the family home until his parents passing.

Pete attended Hillsdale High School and graduated in the class of 1963. His many interests included theater, math, any sport and his Hi Y club the infamous Amboy Dukes.

He had a natural gift for sports and was coached by some of the best, one of which was his high school football coach Dick Vermeil (Dicky Vermeil as Pete called him – once head coach of the St Louis Rams). He was a gifted builder and in the theater put his talents to work building props and doing lighting etc.

Pete served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He spent his latter years doing what he loved best, building things and fixing things no one else could fix. Pete took tremendous pride in everything he touched which led to his being dubbed the local RENT A HUSBAND by the owners of Ace Hardware.

Pete is survived by his wife Beckie Thouren of Logandale, NV and his daughter Cory Thouren of No. California. Pete’s only sister Susan (Dave) Sample resides in AZ. He also leaves behind a sister in-law Lorriania (Stuart) Funkhouser who looked up to him as a father, three nieces, Stephanie, Cynthia and Kimberly and one nephew Cody.

Pete will be cremated under the direction of La Paloma Mortuary of Las Vegas. There will be no official service, instead friends can have a get together to share fond memories. In lieu of flowers Peter wanted to have donations made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah. in his name as well as the name of his horse WACO, whom Best Friends have cared for since Pete became ill.

If anyone wishes to give a monetary donation to the family to help defray the medical costs a bank account is set up at the Bank of America in Overton.
