The biggest middle school forensics tournament of the school year took place on Saturday, January 8 at Martin Middle School in Las Vegas. With so many participants, the competition was intense. To place in the finals was an even tougher challenge. Still, our middle school students walked away with several top honors.
Taking first place in Duos was the team of Autumn Boren and Joe Garber. They performed a comedic piece.
Also enhancing her trophy shelf, Jessica Abbott took third place in the Expository Speech category.
Garrett O’Toole chose a category new to him, Original Oratory. He wrote and memorized a speech about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and took fifth place.
Katie Hendrix also switched categories to Original Oratory and did a fine performance with her speech about jokes.
Mack Lyon Debate coach, Bev Bradley said she was delighted with the results and proud of everyone that participated.
“It’s not just about acquiring trophies though,” she clarified. “It’s about acquiring skills and experiences that will serve for a lifetime.”
