The Pirates traveled to Las Vegas on Thursday to take on the Legacy High School Longhorns.

The game was close right down to the wire. With 16 seconds left to play Brandon Galindo drained two free throws to give Legacy a one point lead at 61-60. After a Moapa time-out Moapa missed a three point try and lost by that score.

The Pirates shot 17-23 from the line. Wouldn’t it be interesting to have a shoot out where all free throws were shot at the end of the game instead of during? Alternate back and forth the players from each team what they would have shot during the game. Think of the pressure, especially when it was a one point game going into the shoot out.

Josh Thompson scored 22 points, Hayden Cooper scored 13 and Danny Kincade had 7.

After the first quarter the score was tied at 13’s. Legacy took a three point lead into the half at 29-26. The score was tied at 46-46 after the third was over and then the finish. Once again free throws determined the game.

On Friday night, Moapa took on the Boulder City Eagles in the first league game of the season. The Pirates busted the game open in the third quarter with 21 points to Boulders 8. The final score being 65 – 54.

The Pirates were up 13-10 after the first quarter Boulder then scored 24 points in the second to take a 28-34 half time lead. The third quarter started with a Dakota Waters’ “3”, a Thompson put back and a Watters layup giving Moapa the lead 38-37.

After Boulder knocked down a “3” Thompson followed with a “3” of his own. Hayden Cooper hit a layup and then a ten footer giving Moapa a 42-38 lead with three minutes to go in the third.

Thompson made four free throws on two plays to push it to 46-40.

After a Boulder layup Thompson put one up from half court with a swish and the horn. The crowd erupted and Boulders mouths dropped open in disbelief.

The Pirates out-scored the Eagle 16-12 in the fourth and had a nineteen point lead a couple of times. They finally coasted to an eleven point win.

Thompson scored 28 points, Cooper had 13, Watters 6, Weiss 5, Sendlein and Lewis each had 4 and Solomon had 3.

From the free throw line the Pirates were 17 for 29 while Boulder shot 12 for 20.
