Overton Mobile Home Burns
A house fire broke out in an Overton mobile home, quickly consuming the building. Fire inspectors determined the fire was started by a candle that was left burning and had been tipped over. Power service to the home had been discontinued the day before. Two people were in the home when the fire started; both escaped without injury.

VIP Restaurant Offers Expanded Menu
Lili Cai of the VIP Restaurant is excited to announce her newly expanded menu. In addition to traditional Chinese cuisine, the VIP has added American food to the menu, including steaks and burgers.

MVHS Students Run Around the World
Three students from MVHS traveled to China over the winter break to participate in the International Sports Exchange. Connie Willard, Kara Rollins, and Jason Brinker arrived in China on December 26. After a couple of days of sightseeing, the three ran through the streets of Shanghai, competing with over 100 runners from a variety of countries, 40 of whom were from the United States. Of those runners, Connie placed 9th, Kara placed 13th, and Jason placed 26th.

Pirates Capture Cactus Classic Title
Moapa Valley High School saw its boys varsity basketball team take home first place at the Virgin Valley Tournament. The tournament recently switched to a round-robin format, with the Pirates playing Alamo, Virgin Valley, and finally Vo-Tech High School for the championship.

Water Storage Tank Under Construction
The one-million gallon water storage tank is being poured for the Moapa Valley Water District. It will take 350-400 yards of concrete to pour the massive tank. The tank is being built approximately one mile north of the Moapa Indian Reservation, and the cost of the tank is $300,000.
