The third annual Queen of Hearts Bunco tournament returns to the CasaBlanca Resort Saturday, Feb. 5 to benefit the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation.
With more than 200 women and a few brave men expected to attend the event beginning at 7 p.m., the wildly-popular dice game will generate funds for brand new children’s athletic shoes for the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation.
As an added bonus children in Mesquite will be fitted for shoes by volunteers of Goodie Two Shoes prior to the Queen of Hearts Bunco event due to the generosity of past contributions.
Goodie Two Shoes was founded in 2003 by Nikki and Tony Berti who patterned their giveaway after a similar event they volunteered for during Tony’s playing days with the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League in 1995-98.
GTSF serves children aged from newborn to 21. The organization is a 501c3 charitable organization, and is referred by schools, social service agencies and other organizations dedicated to assisting children in need.
Among those who will be attending are Karen Morrison and Michele Lueck of Salt Lake City.
“This is my third or fourth Bunco event at the CasaBlanca,” said Morrison, who will journey about 400 miles to attend. “I have played Bunco at home for about 15 years. We heard about the one in Mesquite and went down to play two years ago. I had a great time.”
Lueck will be returning to Mesquite for the third time.
“We really have a good time, and it’s very relaxing,” said Mrs. Lueck, who along with her sister, Dixie Zumwalt, will travel to Mesquite. “We both have high-stress jobs with the federal government, so this is a good way to get away and relax.
There is still room for Bunco players. The cost is $35.00 and there will be cash prizes of up to $3,000.
