Moapa Wrestlers Win Last Dual of the Season

The Pirate Wrestling Team finished the last dual of the season facing off with Coronado High School of Las Vegas. Moapa traveled to Coronado on Thursday and wrestled the Cougars who looked to be a challenging opponent.

The Dual started off with Zak Baldwin at 103 pounds receiving 6 points on a forfeit.

Jake Repp at 112 pounds added to the Pirates score with the first pin making the score 12-0 for Moapa.

Aaron Troxel-Tom was pinned at 119 pounds which gave the Cougars their first score of the evening.

Nathan Sprague wrestled at 125 pounds and after 3 rounds lost by decision 6-1 which put the team score 12-9 Moapa.

The Pirates then enjoyed four pins in a row coming at the hands of Dylan Smith 130 pounds, Shae Bryant 135 pounds, Jared Repp 140 pounds, and Ricky Glaubitz 145 pounds. Jared Repp was especially impressive as he came from behind in the third period down several points to eventually pin the Coronado 140 pound athlete.

The team scores after 145 pounds, Pirates 36 and the Cougars 9.

Wrestling at 152 pounds Hector Cervantes filled in for Trevor Durham who failed to make weight and was pinned. Parker Chappell received six points after pinning the 160 pound Cougar in the 1st period and the team scores with four weight classes left were Moapa 42, Coronado 15.

The Cougars narrowed the gap as they pinned three of the Pirates in a row: 171 Robby Babb; 189 Colton Millington; and the 215 pounder Calvin O’Toole.

The last match of the night came as Ray Bellavance stepped onto the mat to face off in the heavyweight classification. The final score for the dual was Moapa 48, Coronado 33 after Ray pinned Coronado’s 285 pounder.

Moapa now prepares for the Division Tournament which will be held at Moapa Valley High School on the Saturday. Wrestlers qualifying for state in the division tournament will compete at Spanish Springs High School in Sparks, Nevada the following week.
