OBITUARY: Boyd Applegate

Boyd V Applegate, age 59, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada after a valiant battle with Leukemia. He was born July 20, 1951 in Milford, Utah to Lyle D and Jewell Doreen Couch Applegate. On January 22, 1972 he married Christine Florence Myers in Milford, Utah. They were sealed on January 22, 1972 in the St. George LDS Temple.

Boyd grew up in Milford where he excelled in sports. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps while he was still in High School, serving in Vietnam. After he married his high school sweetheart, they lived for a short time in Milford before moving to Riverton, UT where he was involved in real estate and construction projects. In 1988 they settled in Logandale, Nevada, where he owned his own business. He served as the chairman of the Moapa Valley 4th of July committee for many years as well as many other community groups.

Boyd will be remembered for his passion and love for his country, his church and helping the youth. He loved his wife and children and found great joy in watching them have success.

Survivors include his wife, Christine of Logandale, NV; four sons and three daughters: Mindy (Darren) Leavitt of Overton, NV; Teresa (Lon) Leavitt of Phoenix, AZ; Jeffery (Kami) of Gunnison, UT; Chandra (Richard) Miller of Morgan, UT; Vernon (Rebecca) of Las Vegas, NV: Darrin and Bret both of Orem, UT; 17 grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters: Elbert (Marcia) of Wieser, ID; Donna (Dean) Carter of Minersville, UT; Nona (Joe) Bradshaw of Ely, NV; Gary (Marsha) of Tooele, UT; Bryce of Ely, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Dorene Ward.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale LDS Stake Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Logandale Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com.
