In October 2008, Congress voted to extend the right to salute the American Flag during the playing of the National Anthem to veterans of the American military forces and active duty military persons who are not in uniform.
Veterans and active duty personnel not in uniform should salute the flag whenever the National Anthem is played, like at Pirate football and basketball games.
This right is meant to include both male and female veterans and service members. If you qualify, don’t place your right hand over your heart, Salute!
