MVHS Musicians Perform In CCSD Festival

By Jessica Robison

Moapa Valley Progress

The Clark County School District Solo and Ensemble Festival was held at Clark High School in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 12. Members of the Moapa Valley High School Chamber Orchestra travelled to perform in the festival.

Solo and Ensemble is an annual event for music students throughout southern Nevada. Singers, woodwind instruments, brass, strings, and others perform a selected piece of music in front of a judge and are then given a score and comments.

Members of the chamber orchestra that performed on Saturday included Jessany Mortensen, Alison Hardy, Brittany Harding, Marya Romero, Jessica Robison, Stephanie Lyon, Chase Witter, and McKay Barraza. The group played “Aria – Bist Du Bei Mir BWV 508” by J.S. Bach and received a superior rating which is the highest ranking available.

“I’m very happy with the outcome,” MVHS Orchestra Instructor, Walter White said. “They performed at a high level of excellence and showed a lot of dedication to the valley’s music program.”

Jessany Mortensen, Alison Hardy, Brittany Harding, Marya Romero, and Jessica Robison also performed solo auditions at the festival and each received individual ratings.

“We held our own and showed that our school is highly capable of excellence,” White said.
