What a day it was on the Overton Arm of Lake Mead on March 1. Rex had a big fish on for a moment. Paul Bernardo, from Logandale, called and said he got four striper. The last two stripers were nine colors out in deep water, south of marker 19 around 2:00 pm.
Nobody knows why one rod is better than another. Or why one boat scores 13 and another gets skunked. Or why fish bite on the Starboard side of the boat, and they don’t bite on the Port side of the boat. Some fisherman use downriggers, others use “Plainer Boards”. Some fish strike on crank bait, and others strike on anchovies. Some days the spinner is used as an “attractor”. Other days a ball of power bait or a chip of orange peal tipped on the hook below the bait brings the fish to strike.
When you find a big school of fish and jig with a “Dart” or “Luna Bait” you catch a fish every 30 seconds, and yet the next day they won’t look at it.
Art Caldwell and wife Ardith, caught three today in the Lund boat from “Poverty Flats”.
Roy, Roger and Don, cleaned three and lost one.
Doctor Sebago got skunked for the first time in two years. WHY? Nobody knows, but every trip is fun and good for making life last a little bit longer.
Until we meet again, give it some thought and lets go fishing.
The new bait at Ace Hardware is worth checking out. The one big strike in the Starcraft was with a RED ANCHOVY, from Ace Hardware in Overton. Rex Powell, can testify to that experience.
Stan and Pat, are still wondering if the fish that broke their line was the trophy of a lifetime at Mead.
We tried “hardware” with negative results. Even the “Michael Jackson” failed today.
