The Mesa View Medical Group has a new pediatrician who is now serving northeast Clark County. Dr. Merrill Horne joined the team on March 1. Horne’s office will be located in the new Mesa View Quick Care facility at 1301 Bertha Howe Ave., Suite 6 in Mesquite.

Dr. Horne has been a Pediatrician for 30 years now. He comes to Mesquite from Midland, Texas where he has been practicing for the past nine years.

Horne grew up in Midland, Texas. He received an undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University. He then studied medicine at the University of Texas at Galveston.

He decided to pursue pediatrics during the time he was doing his internship. “I hadn’t yet decided what branch of medicine to go into,” he said. “And it was at this point that our first son was born. He was born premature and had a rough time at the start. I really admired the pediatricians who worked with us at that time. It was because of their positive influence on me that I got interested in pediatrics.”

Since that time Horne has practiced medicine in Gillette, Wyoming; Salt Lake City, Utah and his hometown of Midland, Texas. Last year, with the four kids all grown and moved to various parts of the country, Horne said he was ready for a change. He started looking for new opportunities and saw that Mesa View Medical was trying to recruit a pediatrician for Mesquite. He looked into it and the rest is history.

But taking this job was not Dr. Horne’s first experience being in Mesquite, Nevada. Back in the 1980s, Horne was working for an HMO in Salt Lake. During that time his two daughters, who were young at the time, were quite accomplished in playing the harp. From time to time the family would travel to Los Angeles for his daughters to take harp lessons from a distinguished teacher there.

“We drove the I-15 quite often and would come through Mesquite,” Horne said. “I remember it well because the kids loved to stop at, what was then, the Peppermill and eat at the buffet.”

Horne said that in the short time that he has been in Mesquite now, he has come to enjoy the area and its people. “I look forward to working here and becoming a part of this great community,” he said.
