The Moapa Valley Educational Farm Foundation and the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) have joined forces to host an April “Trees on Wheels” sale for local residents.

Trees on Wheels is a program in which native and desert-adapted vegetation grown by the Nevada Division of Forestry is sold to Southern Nevada residents at a low cost, according to Carol Bishop, UNCE educator and vice president of the farm foundation. In the past, the program was held in the fall. This year, however, because of an abundance of available plants, it was decided to have a spring sale.

“We’re offering a huge variety of one-gallon, five-gallon and 15-gallon plants that will be delivered to the UNCE Logandale office in April,” Bishop said. “There are a limited number of some species so it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.”

All pre-orders for the plants have to be received and paid for at the UNCE office, 1897 N. Moapa Valley Blvd., by noon on April 12, she said. Order forms will be available at the office. The cost for plants is $3.25 for one-gallon size; $8.50 for five-gallon, and $15.75 for 15-gallon.

Included among the many species that will be available for purchase are Cat Claw Acacia, Emory Baccharis, Feathery Cassia, She-Oak, Yellow Bird of Paradise, Euonymus, Las Vegas Buckwheat, Sand Cherry, Chaste Tree, Hedge Rose, Quailbrush, Desert Broom and Beardless Wildrye, among others.

All trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses ordered and paid for by the deadline must be picked up at the UNCE office Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16. There is no delivery available.

Buyers will be notified in advance of their pick-up time.
