Fishing On Lake Mead
Laura Brooks Omana, (daughter of Loren Brooks) spent “Spring Break” in Overton, with hopes of catching some striper with her dad. With a forecast of wind for every day she was here, we found some calm weather on the afternoon of April 4, and made our way out on the lake.
It was a beautiful afternoon. We pulled into Sand Island, (Rocky Point) and went for a hike into the hills along the east shore. Why not?! The fish weren’t biting for love nor money in my boat.
When we got back to Echo Bay Marina, Denny and Lawanna Thomas, and their son, were loading their boat on the trailer and they had a nice mess of fish. Denny and Lawanna are staying at Robbin’s Nest in Overton, and have been fishing with us all winter. They said they were trolling with small pieces of anchovy in 25 feet of water and had caught 5 nice striper. Lawanna held up the stringer of fish for a photograph.
She said Wayne and Jerrine Beard, were also fishing in the same area and had caught 12 Striper by 1:00 pm.
Laura told her dad, “just being out on the lake was wonderful, and “there was more to fishing than catching fish”.
Laura has returned to Bountiful, Utah, where she teaches school in the 5th grade. She said Bountiful got 20 inches of snow on April 9 and 10th, (the day she returned to Utah).
“Keep your lure in the water, the waters of life” and I hope to see you out on the lake this coming week.
