MVHS Hosts Track Meet

Moapa Valley High School hosted its first track meet of the season last week when Valley and Las Vegas High Schools came to Jeff Keel Field and Stadium on Wednesday. When it was finished the MVHS Boys team had won 66 to Valley’s 64 and Las Vegas 53.
Chase Witter won in the 200 meters in a time of 24 seconds flat. The wind was blowing which slowed the time down. Moapa took the first four places and five of the top six in the 200. Cody Colburn, Irving Torres and Brandon Johnson were 2nd thru 4th.
In the 800 meters, Josh Thompson won it in 2”02.4 with Freshman Jeremy Waite finishing third. Thompson also won the 1600 with Waite in third again and Cole Witter and Brenden Watkins in fourth and fifth.
Bowen Call finished second in the 110 hurdles and first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.9.
The 4×1 finished third, 4×2 second, 4×4 second and the 4×8 second. Hayden Cooper took second in the high jump. Shae Bryant finished second in the pole vault. Riley Soloman was second with Brandon Johnson third in the long jump. Johnson won the triple jump.
On the girls side the lady Pirates placed third with 41 points. Valley won it with 90 and Las Vegas had 51.
Ashley Noto finished third in the 100.
Tylee Evans and Shannon Tuttle finished first and second in the 1600. Evans’ winning time was 6:22.7.
In the 100 hurdles Ashley Noto and Chelsea Olige finished third and fourth. Noto finished in second in the 300 hurdles. Malary Ried finished fifth.
In the relays Moapa finished third in the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×800. Kim Sprague finished second in the shotput with Shelbie Gray finishing fourth.
Gray finished third in the discus with Sprague finishing fifth.
Chelsea Olige won the high jump with a height of 4’10”.
Shanon Tuttle won the pole vault at seven feet.
Malary Ried won the long jump with a distance of 13’ 10.75. Chelsea Olige was third and Alyssa Petersen was fourth.
Olige was 4th in the triple jump.
Over the weekend two of Moapa’s boys were accepted to compete in the Arcadia High School Invite in Arcadia, California a competition of elite tracksters. Josh Thompson placed 5th in the open 3200 with a time of 9:29.84. Chase Witter finished 16th with a time of 1:57.55 in the 800. He finished 23rd in the 400 with a time of 51.19.
