Volunteerism is alive and well in Moapa Valley in the form of many of its citizens. Two of those citizens, Steve and Terri Getz, have long been known for their civic minded-ness and their community service. The couple has recently made a move to Moab, Utah leaving a gap for many in the community who knew them and worked with them.

As local business owners, Steve and Terri owned Overton Boat and RV Storage south of downtown for several years.

In 2008, Steve was awarded the Spotlight Award at the 4th of July Celebration. The award “spotlights” community members who focus on and give back to their community.

Steve also served on the Strategic Planning Committee for four years. During that time he worked on a design overlay for Moapa Valley and the Logandale Trail Systems.

Steve also served on the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Moapa Valley Sewer Project. Part of his duties there involved research on how a valley wide sewer system would work in the valley, costs associated with such a venture, and the feasibility of the project.

Steve and Terri worked on the 4th of July Celebration for many years, both through the Moapa Valley Rotary Club as well as being the extra hand whenever needed. They helped coordinate July 4 breakfast, decorating, and programs, both during the day and in the evening.

Steve also volunteered as a firefighter at Overton Station 74 for many years.

“Rotarians know Steve and Terri as committed to building a wide variety of programs that will continue to make our community a great place to live,” said local Rotarian Chris Green. “I count myself one of many who will miss the savvy-smart business minds that they both possess. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to have attended any of the gatherings hosted by the Getz’s witnessed the wide range of fascinating folk who called Steve and Terri friends.”

The community will miss Steve and Terri, and we wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors.
