MVHS Track Hosts Richard Lewis Invitational

The Moapa Valley High School stadium lights were on Friday night and the streets around the school were crowded with twenty one buses which had brought athletes from seventeen schools from all over Nevada and Arizona. A mass of cars and trucks jammed the parking lot and the desert areas across from the stadium. Is it Football season yet? No, it was the annual Richard Lewis Track and Field Invitational.

When all was said and run around 400 athletes and a packed stadium of parents watched as the Silverado boy’s team and the Faith Lutheran girl’s team celebrated their team championships.

The Moapa Boys’ team finished fifth and the Girls’ team finished seventh in the tournament.

Spectators saw some outstanding performances as Silverado’s Ladell Jackson won three events, the 100m, 200m and 400m.

MVHS senior, Josh Thompson won the 1600m (4:28.89) the 3200 meter (9:50.5) and finished fourth in the 800 meter with a personal record of 1:59.72.

Bowen Call won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40:54 and fourth place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16:89.

Boulder City Eagle James Morgan won the Shotput at 55-6.

Team results for Boys’ teams were as follows: Silverado 168½, Green Valley 127, Arbor View 106, Mojave 58½, Moapa Valley 52, Shadow Ridge 43, Liberty 23, Virgin Valley 22½, Faith Lutheran 22, Boulder City 20, Pahranagat Valley 16, Desert Oasis 14, White Pine 12½, Beatty 11, Laughlin 3, Lincoln County 2, Calvary Chapel 1

On the Girls side Moapa Valley Pirate Ashley Noto won the 300m hurdles in a time of 49.89. She finished seventh 18.09 behind Pirate Chelsea Olige who finished sixth 17.78 in the 100m hurdles. Olige also finished fourth (30-6.25) in the triple jump.

Virgin Valley’s McCall Grajek finished in second 16.96 in the 100m hurdles and fourth in the 300m hurdles.

Shelbie Gray finished fifth in the Shotput 33-2.5 with Kim Sprague finishing seventh 31-6.

Team scores for the Girls’ teams were as follows: Faith Lutheran 136¼, Silverado 129, Green Valley 114, Shadow Ridge 94, Arbor View 59, Virgin Valley 39¼, Moapa Valley 34¼, Mojave 17½, Pahranagat Valley 16, Tonopah 15, Calvary Chapel 12, Beatty 12, White Pine 8½, Laughlin 7, Lincoln County 6, Lund 2, Fredonia (Ariz.) ¼
