Fun with Flintknapping At Lost City

The Lost City Museum is welcoming visitors during May, Archaeology Awareness Month in Nevada, to learn about the archaeology of Nevada in a hands-on way. For those who have ever wanted to how stone tools are made the museum will host demonstrations.

Visitors can join Archaeologist Joe Moore for his presentation Fun with Flintknapping at the Museum on Saturday, May 7 from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Museum visitors can learn all about flintknapping and can even try to make their own stone tool.

“Joe has conducted countless flintknapping demonstrations, including some at Death Valley National Park,” said Dena Sedar, Curator of Archeology. “He loves to share his knowledge of flintknapping and archaeology with visitors.”

Joe Moore is a retired Nevada Department of Transportation Archaeologist. Moore did graduate work at both the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the University of Nevada, Reno.

The Lost City Museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $5.00; children and members enter free. For more information, please call the museum at (702) 397-2193.
