LETTER: Noisy ATVers, The Pleasure Is All Yours

So, you love to ride a motorbike? We, as Overton residents, who live along the famous railroad tracks of Overton, have some thoughts that need to be brought to your attention Almost daily we fall victim to a complete lack of courtesy demonstrated by those “hot rodders” who apparently assume that hearing their loud OHVs as they tear around, is as enjoyable to us as it is to them. Sorry, but the pleasure is all yours!

We live in a land that touts the principles of freedom implying that we lay claim to an imaginary space surrounding each of us, and that space is not to be invaded by someone else exercising their freedom. Here are some examples:

1. The “Free Agency” of you swinging your fist ends at least one half inch short of my nose!

2. Your cigarette smoke has no business drifting into my breathing range!

3. Your loud music should be kept quiet enough that I don’t have to hear it.

4. And the mufflers on your motorbikes, four wheelers, trucks etc. need to be effective enough that I don’t have to hear you every time you ride by.

There are thousands of acres of desert right at your disposal, and a dozen ways to get there, without roaring past our back yards and disturbing the peace of the those, who are not invading your lifestyle!

Bottom line: imposing your fun and frolic on those around you with such utter disregard for their peace and quiet is totally inexcusable! On the other hand, if your behavior is merely an effort to be noticed or recognized, then how about doing community service, or lend a helping hand to someone in need?

Just please, keep your noise to yourselves!

Jack Morgan
