The Moapa Valley High School Advanced Study Computers class held its second annual Photography Show on Monday, April 25. About 200 pictures hung on the walls throughout the main hall in the high school. Parents, teachers, and others arrived that evening to support this event.

“Our turnout was about the same as last year,” Maria Chidester, teacher of the Adv. Study Computers class, said. “About 75 people came and enjoyed the night. I’m happy with the response and thankful for the support.”

Kaylee Barlow’s picture “Broken Face” won Best of Show. This is the second year that she has won the show’s top award.

To be judged, the pictures are taken to Utah where several people with degrees in photography and art decide on their personal favorites, Chidester said. The photos are judged on details such as photography composition, camera technique, basic photography, lighting, exposure, and more.

The Best of Show award is the judge’s choice award. Chidester explained that after each judge picks their favorite, they collect them together and decide on the best.

Kaylee Barlow’s “Broken Face” will be enlarged to hang in a frame in the front office. “We will continue to add the winning picture every year,” Chidester reported. “Eventually the wall will be full.”
