HEALTHLINE: No, You’re Not Defenseless Against Radiation

For the past several weeks I’ve been keeping a close eye on the Fukushima nuclear fallout disaster as events unfold from Japan. Recently, the situation has been upgraded to a level 7 (the highest rating on the disaster scale) and over time may prove to be the largest nuclear disaster in the history of the world. I don’t believe in spreading fear, but I do believe you need to be well-informed to best prepare yourself and family for the worst case scenario. In spite of the scope and magnitude of the situation, YOU ARE NOT HELPLESS IN DEFENDING YOURSELF AGAINST THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION! Here are some ways you can take action to minimize your exposure and prepare yourself physically for the best possible outcome:
#1: EXAMINE YOUR DIET Radioactivity concentrates up the food chain. In other words, you will find the highest contamination levels in meat, fish and dairy. Recently, radiation levels were detected in U.S. milk products that were nearly 300% the E.P.A. maximum threshold for safety. An animal-based diet is the worst possible option for the current situation. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to transition to a plant-based diet, that time is NOW!
#2: SUGAR & RADIATION DON’T MIX! Did you know sugar dramatically increases your chances of developing bone cancer if you’re exposed to any long-term radiation? Sugar robs your body of calcium and leaves you very vulnerable to absorbing radioactive isotope strontium-90 which has an atomic structure very similar to calcium. Cola drinks are some of the worst offenders, because they are high in both sugar and phosphoric acid.
#3: TRANSITION TO A PLAN-BASED DIET: Did you know that in the early 50’s, experiments with radiation in lab animals revealed that diets rich in green alkaline foods containing high amounts of chlorophyll actually reversed the horrible effects of radiation! Why? Because alkaline foods help get rid of harmful toxins that cause damage to our tissues and organs. Caution: you may be tempted to immediately start taking massive doses of stable iodine, but doing so prematurely could actually be a health hazard (always check with a qualified practitioner when taking supplements—particularly if you are on thyroid medications). As part of your emergency preparedness, be sure to obtain an adequate supply of supplemental prophylactic iodine so you’re ready whenever the situation is severe enough to require it. #5: HEAVY METAL DETOX & CHELATION: Your thyroid is just one of many organs at risk from the nuclear fallout. Radiation can even cause mutations to your DNA!
