The Moapa Valley High School Girls Softball team went up against Mojave High School on May 3 at home. The girls clobbered the Rattlers 21-2.
Moapa had 16 hits. Pirates fans watched as Haley Causey threw a two-hitter while striking out 10 batters as the game went the minimum of five innings.
Rachael Dalley and Samantha Mora each scored three runs on 3 for 4 hitting by Rachael and 2 for 3 by Samantha.
In the league, Boulder City is now the top seed with a record of 8-0. Virgin Valley 4-4 is the 2nd seed and will play 3rd seeded Moapa Valley 0-8 at 12:00 on Friday, May 13 in Moapa. That winner will play Boulder at 2:00 with losers of games one and two playing the elimination game at 4:00.
The winner will return Saturday and play in the championship. The tournament is double elimination so it may take a second game to determine the champion.
In the north. South Tahoe 10-2 plays Spring Creek 11-4. Fallon 11-1 plays Truckee 9-3. Elko 12-3 plays Fernley 10-2. The winners advance to the state tournament.
The State tournament will be held in Mesquite next week.
