Events At Lost City Museum
Have you ever wanted to know the ins and outs of archaeological research? The Lost City Museum will be hosting Adult Archaeology Day on Saturday, May 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
This event will allow adults to learn the process of archaeology by participating in a mock excavation and learning how to analyze artifacts in the laboratory.
Participants will learn from professional archaeologists about archaeology in a hands-on way, from the excavation phase of an archaeological investigation to the laboratory phase.
Space is limited to 12 people so sign up early.
A lecture, open to the public, on the ceramics of the prehistoric Fremont Indians will be held that same day at the museum at 3:00 p.m.
The lecture will be entitled Shades of Gray: Exploring Fremont Ceramics and will be given by Christopher Watkins, a PhD candidate at Arizona State University.
Watkins is a Registered Professional Archaeologist focusing on small-scale agricultural societies in the American Southwest and Great Basin. His research interests include material science, social organization, mortuary ritual, and production and exchange. He specializes in the study of archaeological ceramics.
After growing up in Gilbert, Arizona, Watkins attended Brigham Young University, eventually completing his BA and MA in anthropology. Chris is currently completing his PhD in anthropology at Arizona State University, a study of ceramic production in the 14th century American Southwest.
The Lost City Museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $5.00; children and members enter free.
