Moapa Valley High School hosted the regional baseball and softball championships on Friday. The showdown saw the Eagles of Boulder City take home both titles and win berths in the state championships which will be played in Mesquite this week.
The Moapa baseball team played Virgin Valley twice and were beaten both times 8-4 and 5-4.
The second game was a heart breaker as the Bulldogs scored in their last at-bat in the 8th inning to win 5-4.
The Bulldogs then went on to face the Eagles for the championship needing to win twice. The Eagles scored seven runs in the first inning and coasted to the championship with a score of 11-0 in five innings.
In softball Boulder City had no problem beating the Lady Pirates twice the first time on Friday 10-0 then the second for the Championship 12-0. Eagle pitching dominated as Koopman pitched a one hitter in the championship game.
The real surprise came with the lady Pirates beating the Bulldogs not once, but twice to eliminate the Bulldogs from the tournament. The Pirates had not won a league game this season until the upsets of 11-5 and 5-4.
The Eagles advance to this weekend state tournament in Mesquite.
In the state baseball tournament Truckee will play Boulder City Thursday at 7:00 pm while Fallon will play Lowry the north’s top seed at 4:00 pm also Thursday. The softball tournament will have defending Champion Boulder City play Spring Creek at 10:00 am. Then Elko will play Fallon at 12:00 pm.
