Brandon Reeves

Brandon Reeves is excited to think that, in less than a month, he will have graduated high school. “It feels pretty good,” he commented. “I’ll miss high school but I’m ready to be done and on to other things.”

In the fall, Reeves plans to travel to Lancaster, California to attend the West Coast Baptist College. He plans to study there for four years until he earns his Pastoral Degree. Then, he wants to return to Moapa Valley and start a Baptist Church here. “I feel like it’s my calling… like it’s what the Lord wants.”

In ten years, he said that he hopes to have a successful life and a family. He hopes to be the Pastor of a Baptist church in Moapa Valley. “It just feels like it’s where the Lord wants me to be.”

Looking back at his years at Moapa Valley High School Reeves said he has many fond memories. He said that his overall best memory of high school has to be when he took fourth place in the State Wrestling Tournament. He said that his favorite class was Construction Tech because it was a hands-on experience. When asked what he will miss about MVHS, he answered that he will miss playing football more than anything.

His least favorite part of high school has been taking the tests. “If you miss a test day then you have to make up the test and you get way behind on your work,” he said. “I especially hate the Proficiencies because I don’t like to read.”

Reeves’ advice for future high schoolers is to not procrastinate. “Procrastination is your worst enemy,” he said. “Always do your work and make sure it’s in on time. And go Pirates!”

Stephanie Lyon

The 2010-2011 school year has flown by for Stephanie Lyon and she is looking forward to moving on. “I’m very excited for high school to end,” she said. “I’m ready for the change.”

In looking back at her high school experience, Stephanie thinks that her least favorite part was testing. “I always wind up over-thinking them and studying way harder than I need to,” she comments.

But Stephanie said that she is happy that high school gave her something to do over the past four years and has always kept her entertained.

Next year, Stephanie plans to attend Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. She said that BYU has become something of a tradition for her family to attend. She said that she was accepted to the school fairly easily.

“I will go to school, take a bunch of classes, and try to figure out what I like and what I’m good at,” she says of her plans for next year.

As of right now, she said that she is interested in a career in public health. But she thinks that this will most likely change before she receives her diploma.

In five years, Stephanie hopes to be finished with college and be self-reliant.

“I suppose by that time I’ll be old enough to get married too,” she said.

She does not see herself ever coming back to live in Moapa Valley but she said that she is not completely against it. “I am extremely pleased to be where I am now,” Lyon said.

Tips for the upcoming high school students: “My advice for future high schoolers is to do your homework… before the day it’s due.”
