MVHS Track Competes At State

The Moapa Valley High School Track and Field team traveled to Del Sol High School over the weekend to compete in the State Championships.

The Pirate boys were unable to defend their state title as Churchill County ran away with the boy’s title. The Pirates finished fourth behind runner-up Elko and third place finisher Boulder City.

Moapa had three individual state champions.

Bowen Call won the 300m Hurdle title in a time of 40.00. Bowen also finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles.

Josh Thompson defended his 3200 meter title in a time of 9:42.9 Josh finished third in the 1600 and sixth in the 800.

Chase Witter defended both of his titles in the 400 meters and 800 meters. His times were 49.99 in the 400 and 1:57.23 in the 800.

The 4×100 relay team finished in 6th place with a time of 45.54. The team members were Riley Solomon, Hayden Cooper, Cole Witter and Cody Colburn. The 4×200 relay team finished 4th in a time of 1:34.53. The team members were Cody Colburn, Riley Solomon, Brandon Johnson and Bowen Call. The 4×400 team placed 7th with a time of 3:38.64. The team members were Bowen Call, Zack Waite, Cole Witter and Cody Colburn. The 4×800 team finished in 2nd with a time of 8:18.12. The team members were Josh Thompson, Brenden Watkins, Cole Witter and Chase Witter. Justin Boren placed 6th in pole vault with a vault of 10 feet 6 inches. Zach Waite finished 4th in the long jump with a jump of 20 feet 7.5 inches. Then he finished 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet 7.25 inches. Brandon Johnson finished 7th in the triple jump traveling 40 feet 8 inches. The boy’s team finished with 90 points.

On the girl’s side Malory Reid placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.04 and 5th in the long jump traveling 14 feet 6 inches. Chelsea Olige finished in 6th in the triple jump with a jump of 31 feet 2.5 inches; and 8th in the high jump with a jump of 4 foot 8 inches. Kim Sprague finished 4th in the shotput with a throw of 33 feet. Shelbie Gray finished 8th in the shotput and the discus with throws of 29 feet 7 inches and 82 feet 7 inches respectively. Ashley Noto finished 5th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 50.18. The 4×200 relay team finished 5th with a time of 1:52.82. The team members were Chelsea Olige, Mackenzie Bush, Breanna Harding and Ashley Noto. The 4×800 team finished 8th with a time of 11:04.84. The team members were Ashley Noto, Lynae Barlow, Tylee Evans and Shannon Tuttle. The ladies finished 9th with 30 points.

Elko won the girls’ team title with 148 points.
