Local Scout Organizing Book Drive
Local Boy Scout, Kevin Bessey, was looking for a project that could involve a wide variety of individuals. Wanting to share his love for reading, he has decided to organize a valley wide book drive to redistribute the written word to those in need.
“Everyone has old books on their bookshelves that will most likely never be re-read,” Bessey said. “But on the other side of the spectrum many don’t have access to books. Many mothers can’t even enjoy the simple pleasure of reading children’s books to their kids.”
During the first two weeks of June collection boxes for new and used books will be located at various businesses in Moapa Valley. Books donated at these locations will be distributed to the Cappalappa Family Resource Center, the W. Mack Lyon Middle School Library. Books will also be donated to shelters in Las Vegas.
“My goal is to collect 750 books,” Bessey said. “Help me surpass it.”
