The fifth graders at Grant M. Bowler Elementary School shared some special skills at the annual Fifth Grade Talent Show last week.

These talented kids showed off skills that were learned outside of the school’s halls and classrooms. The crowd, which filled the multi-purpose room to capacity, was entertained with a gymnastic routine, singing, dancing, violins, piano, cheerleading, karate and comedy acts.

Mr. Ogren was the master of ceremonies for the show.

He dubbed Morgan Aikele “Lightning Fingers” because of her ability to impress the crowd with her extreme speed on the piano.

Ogren also noticed Dimitri Kutcher’s impression of him while doing his Weird Al Yankovic White and Nerdy performance.

Another notable impression was a singing and dancing act by Josh Lee who was spot on to Justin Beiber’s song, “Baby”, complete with dance moves and back-up dancers.

Justin Yakaitis and Stone wowed the crowd by beat-boxing a rap called Big Mac.

Gymnastic competitors Hailee Heiselbetz and Jalayne Chalfant showed that their commitment to the gym team has paid off.

Both Emma Thompson and Samantha Conk shared the fruits of years of practice on the violin.

One of the favorite acts of the day was a singing/comedy act to Party In The Local Park: a parody of Miley Cyrus’ Party In The U.S.A. The lyrics of this song have been drifting the halls of Grant M. Bowler all school year. The boys did actions to the song including getting “stuck in a tree”, seeing “Winnie the Pooh” and “playing patty-cake”.

The afternoon finale was the double black belt skills of fifth grade teacher Mrs. Nelson, performed at the request of her students. She shared her story that last fall when she first tried to pass the test she failed. But she used that experience to let her students know that they should never give up and to keep trying. With more practice she took the test again this spring and passed. She demonstrated board breaks with her hand, arm, legs and knee.

The cheers heard throughout the school for all the participants were well-deserved.
