Sunset Ceremony On Memorial Day

A crowd of more than 40 people watched on Memorial Day last week as members of VFW Pose 8336 and American Legion Post 75 retired the colors during a solemn ceremony.

More than 40 Moapa Valley residents attended a poignant Memorial Day ceremony last month by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8336 and American Legion Post 75 to retire the colors and decorate the Veterans Memorial at the Overton ceremony.

The formal evening service is conducted annually to remember and honor all deceased veterans, according to Charlie Jamison, VFW commander and Nevada District 6 chaplain.

Those participating in the two-part service on Memorial Day May 30 that included a color guard and Veterans Memorial decoration included Bruce Hollinger, David Fox, Dennis Vance, Charles Riley, Charlie Jamison, Chuck Jones, Bill Picket, Dan Rash, Ralph Healy, Joe Perez playing the bugle and Bonnie Durban, president of the ladies auxiliary.

Decorations placed on the Veterans Memorial included a small red wreath, red, white and blue flowers and an American Flag.
