It has been a year since the fire in the Warm Springs area.
During this past year concerned neighbors and I have harangued the Moapa Township Advisory Board at nearly every meeting to take action to help prevent another (possibly more disastrous) fire. We have asked that letters be sent to landowners (private, corporation, or government agency) whose property is so brushy and overgrown that it poses a fire danger to neighboring properties.
Although it would be cheaper to prevent a fire than to fight one, as of the June Town Board meeting we have no proof that letters were ever sent nor that any other steps have been taken.
Recently, one of the pieces of property that we asked be cleared of excess brush was the site of a marijuana field and police activity. If the land had been cleared, mowed or grazed off as we asked it would not have provided the privacy and cover the growers seem to want.
Having property owners clear out the overgrowth would make neighboring properties safer. It would also be cheaper for taxpayers than continued drug raids and fire fighting.
