A 50,000-pound Pipe Maintenance truck flushing out manholes on the newly installed sewer line in Overton rolled backward off a culvert and overturned into a canal along Moapa Valley Boulevard on Friday morning.
There were no injuries in the one-vehicle accident and traffic on the highway was only briefly halted.
Driver Manuel Mira, 44, of Las Vegas said he was backing up when the truck “just slowly slipped down into the canal and tipped over.”
“I tried to brake but once it started falling I couldn’t stop it,” he said.
Local firefighters responded to the scene to assist in a minor hazardous materials cleanup due to a small amount of diesel fuel from the truck spilling into the culvert.
