Slim and Sassy: The Way You Were Meant to Be

From the tabloids in the supermarkets to New York Times Best Seller lists, theories and remedies have been thrown around with reckless abandonment. But if history is any indicator of the future, there is no one perfect, universal fix for cellulite. The angst and frustration caused by an obsession with body image has driven people to polarize their feelings about weight loss. Either people succumb to hopelessness and fight to validate their size or they obsessively live their lives seeking an imagined perfect body. Perception is reality, and current perceptions are incredibly varied and inconsistent. How can any one person fight through these competing ideals to find a reality worth living?

Honestly, I don’t have the answer to that question. I suspect that the answer lies somewhere in the intrinsic motivations instead of external forces. Waiting for the validation of others to bring happiness is along the same lines as expecting warmth from a fire we refuse to light. It will not happen. Happiness is our own responsibility. So seize opportunity when it is offered! While every remedy may not work, some will. Some will offer not only desired results, but also a chance to find a new joy. Forget an unreasonable image of what you think you should be, and find your best self!

First, define what you want. Visualize an image yourself at your best and happiest. If you cannot visualize yourself at your ideal image, you are undermining your own efforts. Spend some pleasant moments every day visualizing yourself at your ideal image, perhaps in a favorite outfit, or doing something new or fun. An effective time to visualize your new self is during exercise. Do not stress over it–just hold the image for 3-5 minutes and then let it go.
