Mesa View Regional Hospital awarded a $500 Doctor’s Day Scholarship to Moapa Valley High School 2011 graduate Zach Waite during a brief presentation held on Wednesday, June 29.
Dr. Lonnie Empey of Mesa View Medical Group, who presented the award, stated that the hospital had received a number of applications for the award from excellent candidates.
The criteria for the award was that the recipient should be interested in studying to enter the field of health care and hopefully come back and work locally, he said.
“I know Zach very well and I congratulate him on receiving this scholarship,” Empey said. “Usually I only see him when he is lying down on the (football) field waiting for me to come and pop his shoulder back in.”
Waite plans to attend Brigham Young University-Idaho in the fall and hopes to complete a nursing program. He said that he wants to eventually work in the field of anesthesiology.
“I’m going out of state to study for a while,” Waite said. “But I’d eventually like to come back here to southern Nevada to work and to live.”
