About 500 homes in Logandale were without power for a time on Saturday night after fierce winds took down a number of power poles in different locations, according to Overton Power District officials.

The high winds preceded a thunderstorm which swept through the Moapa Valley at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday bringing over a half and inch of rain within an hour to some areas. The winds sheared off two power poles on Pioneer Rd. just south of the former Tai Ranch. Another two poles came down further south on Pioneer Road near Cameron Ave.

According to OPD officials, a crew of 11 workers, some from Mesquite, were called to the scene to repair lines and restore power.

“We had power back on to about 400 of the homes in Logandale by around 7:30,” said OPD Operations Manager Richard Jones.

Other customers in the Brothers Ave. area and on homes on the west side of the railroad tracks south of Tank Rd. were without power until about 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, Jones said.

A smaller outage occurred on Sunday evening in the Lewis Ranch area of Moapa. High winds snapped another power poll in the narrows causing this outage which affected only 4-5 homes, Jones said.
