LETTER: Reading Declaration Of Independence An Eye Opening Experience
I’m once again a supporter of Dr. Larry Moses and his choice of having us read The Declaration of Independence in the Progress while he was gone. He was right on!
A lady of 85 years does not like to admit such things, but I had never completely read The Declaration of Independence. I remember having been asked by a school teacher eons ago to do so, but I remember finding it very difficult to understand. I suppose I just passed it off.
Not only is it important that we read it, but it is also important that it be explained in our schools.
Another thing that seems important to mention is that we all know we’re in shambles regarding the scary budget. We’re drowning in debt as a government and as individuals. We’re looking for ways to dig ourselves out. Well, Postal Department of the United States, here’s a suggestion for you.
For years we got along just fine with only one choice of stamps for our regular mail. It was a stamp that cost 3 cents at one point, and 5 (7?) at another. It kept moving up in cost, but far from what is happening now.
When the Kate Smith patriotic stamp came out I thought, Ah Ha! Why not keep that one forever? I see no need to change stamps every few weeks / months. It only causes us money, money and money to create, develop and print it. It just seems to fall under the ‘keep it simple’ department in my mind.
