Water and its significance throughout biblical history was the theme of the Moapa Christian Church’s vacation bible school which ran Monday through Thursday last week.
Eighteen kids from all the local communities including the Moapa River Reservation, Moapa, Logandale and Overton, attended the vacation camp, which was called “Super Cool Undersea Bible Adventure” (SCUBA).
“Each day we conducted a different activity based on a water-themed passage from the bible,” said Pastor Bill Lang. “During the activities we re-enacted different scenes from the bible such as Jonah and the whale and the disciples stranded on the stormy sea.”
This was the first summer bible camp at the church on the Moapa Paiute reservation during the 10 years Lang and his co-pastor and wife Anita have been there.
The Langs were assisted by several adult and teenage planners including Cynthia Webster, 18, of Lewiston, ID, who traveled to Nevada specifically to participate in the vacation bible school.
Webster, dressed as “SCUBA Dooba Doo,” was the camp’s mascot and song leader, according to Lang.
“We think the vacation bible school was a terrific success,” the pastor said.
Kids who attended included Manny Anguilar, Dillian Sosa, German Madrigal, Hanna Mayo, Calen Mayo, Gavin Mayo, Shaye Featherhat, J’moni Hart, Shady Pickayviett, Savannah Pickayviett, Hope Hah, Robyn Johnson, Michael Silva, Kimberly Meza, Savannah J. Meza, Cesar Meza, Kotah Mayo and Melanie Carreon.
