Photographer Calvin Meyers received accolades last weekend from visitors to his two-day photo exhibit on the Moapa River Indian Reservation.

Meyers’ beautiful photographs were displayed on easels and wall groupings inside the reservation’s administration building. There was also a running slide show of his work projected on a large screen at the front of the room during the exhibit.

All of the photographs were of outdoor scenes and included wonderful scenic landscapes; various wildlife shots including ducks and lizards; petroglyphs from several different areas in Southern Nevada, and a variety of different desert vistas.

The exhibit was sponsored by the Moapa Tribal Police Department where many of the pictures eventually will be displayed.

To the chagrin of many visitors, Meyers wasn’t selling the photos in the exhibit, although he did allow one person to buy a picture of the Mint 400.

“I wanted to let people see the work I’ve done so far,” Meyers said. “It’s all been pretty positive and most people have had good things to say about the photographs.”

“I just really love his work,” commented Kimberly Brundy of Moapa. “Some of my favorites are the lizards and some of those showing the sky.”

Several people were surprised to learn that many of Meyers’ photographs were taken right on the Moapa Reservation.

“They didn’t recognize the things in the pictures,” he said. “Maybe this (the photographs) will help persuade people to get out and look around at their environment.”
