MVHS Cross Country In Rebuilding Mode

The Moapa Valley High School Cross Country team has been spoiled the past four years with the likes of Josh Thompson and Chase Witter running on the team. This year’s cross country teams will be in rebuilding mode.
Last year’s seniors took with them the state runner-up trophy. Two time state individual champ Josh Thompson is now in Arizona at college.
Here is this year’s teams.
Women’s team: DJ Carter – junior, Kenna McMurray – junior, Vickie Karvonen – sophomore.
Men’s team: Tyler Reynolds – senior, Tyler Winzenried – senior, Ryan Leachman – senior, Garrett Traasdahl – junior, Marshall Potts – freshman, Skylar Whipple – freshman.
The teams will be led by new head coaches. Heather Humes will be coaching for the girls team. And Gary Watkins will coach for the boys team.
South Tahoe will be the favorites to defend the state cross country title this season.
Virgin Valley and Boulder city will have more numbers on the team than the Pirates. The Dawgs had 17 kids on the first day of practice while Boulder is always strong.
