The high school tennis season is brief, only lasting a few weeks in the fall. But the Moapa Valley High School players have been getting up early and working hard on the fundamentals in practice for the past couple of weeks.

The season begins next week on August 30 when the team travels for a match-up with Virgin Valley.

Then the season will get underway with several matches taking place each week. The regular season is over by the end of September with team championships in the first week of October.

This year, the tennis program at MVHS is rather short in numbers. There are seven girls and about a dozen boys playing tennis this fall. This makes it tough for the Pirates to compete as they are up against 4A schools in Vegas where many of their opponents are being coached by professionals.

Girl’s Coach Donna Swanson Boy’s Coach Sidney Bounds are working as hard as the kids in developing skills and getting players in shape to go up against tough competition.
