Former MVHS Coach Recognized For Work With Students

Seward Community College Dean Celeste Donovan, congratulates former Moapa Valley resident James “Koko” Davis for an award earned working with Seward students.
James “Koko” Davis, a former girl’s JV basketball coach at Moapa Valley High School (MVHS), was recently honored for his work with students at Seward Community College in Liberal, KS.
Davis, who coached in Moapa Valley from 2004 through 2006, received a National Institute for Staff Organizational Development (NISOD) award while employed as the housing director at Seward. His work included coordinating the school’s housing operation for up to 240 resident students. He also served on the college’s Continuous Quality Insurance (CQI), Retention Committee and the At-Risk Team.
NISOD awards began in 1978 and are awarded in recognition of the recipient’s extraordinary service to their schools, communities and students, and to a commitment to high performance.
Davis was cited for assisting students in taking responsibility for attending classes and maintaining academic achievement. He selected and screened student leaders and educated students in the process of making good decisions and handling consequences for the decisions that they make.
Davis recently returned to Moapa Valley.
