Fred Thomas

Frederick “Fred” Samuel Thomas, age 78, died Friday, August 26, 2011 at his home in Overton, Nevada. He was born December 10, 1932 in Little Genesee, New York. On November 4, 1955 he married Ellen Sandra Lister in Roy, Utah. On November 4, 2000 their marriage was sealed in the St. George Temple.

Fred grew up in upstate New York. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served for 22 years in aircraft maintenance. His career culminated as NCOIC of the Maintenance Control section with the elite Thunderbirds flight demonstration team, based out of Nellis Air Force Base. After he retired from the US Air Force, he worked as a Maintenance Superintendent for the Clark County Community college and later for Pahor Mechanical. He served faithfully in the LDS Church, his callings included serving as a Webelo Scout Leader, Financial Clerk and in the High Priest Group Leadership. He enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling, golfing, camping and riding around on his tractor.

Survivors include his wife, ”Sandy”; a son, Michael (Diane) of Denver, CO; three grandchildren: Ashley (Mark) Breuer of Omaha, NE; Janna (Robin) Sagel and Brian (Meaghan) Schiller both of Greeley, CO; four great grandchildren; two sisters: Sharon (Vern) Burdick of Alfred Station, NY and Carrie Anderson of Barefoot Bay, FL. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, a brother, William and a sister, Winnie.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Overton 4th Ward (Hinckley) Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel.     Sandy and Family,
    Jean and I want to express our sympathy in hearing of Fred’s passing. Fred was a great friend and wonderful teammate on the Thunderbirds. I will miss the ooportunity to play a round of golf with Fred when the reunion rolls around. You and your family are in our prayers during this difficult time.
