You get stuck in the slowest line at the grocery store . . . ugh. You are late for work because someone moved your keys and you couldn’t find them . . . grrrr. Your car is out of gas already and you just filled it up. . . sheesh. Someone drank all the juice in the fridge and then put the empty bottle back . . . why! Why can’t you catch a break today? Why is the world against you?! You are having a bad day . . . again! It feels like you are having bad days with alarming increase. What happened? Why are you living life this way?
Bad days are most often the result of bad moods. Normal irritations and annoyances take on an emotional significance. Emotional reactions become disproportionate to the cause. Suddenly the slow guy at the red light is personally offensive. Once emotions become involved, your body responds in kind. Headaches, upset stomach, back pain, and brain fog add physical discomfort to the emotional anxiety. Now your bad mood is an emotional, physical event that ruins your day and makes you feel like the world is a terrible place.
There really is no reason to live that way, not when there are simple solutions. The world is an incredible place full of beauty, enjoyment, and delight. The trick is appreciating the good when you find it. A bad mood limits your ability to appreciate simple pleasures.
Recent research by the Cognitive Drug Research into human mood alteration states that one of the best methods for changing mood and mental status is olfactory or smell. Our sense of smell is very closely connected to our emotional response. Certain smells or scents actually have the ability to physically alter mental status. For example, lavender has been shown to slow and relax the brain creating a calming effect. Lemon oil gives a sense of exhilaration and excitement.
Are you seeing the connection? Essential oils are the perfect solution for eliminating bad days! Bad days are the result of bad moods. Bad moods cause a combination of emotional stress and physical discomfort. However, moods can be altered by aromas, such as those inherent in essential oils. Thus essential oils alter moods which in turn alleviate emotional and physical discomfort. How exciting is that? Something as simple as taking time to smell the roses really does work. It’s a natural process – safe and effective.
