Metro police went on an extensive manhunt on Thursday afternoon, September 1 when an adult male, who was suspected of a minor theft, fled from police and ended up eluding capture for about 24 hours. The suspect, a local resident whose name has not yet been released by police because of an ongoing investigation, was apprehended and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Friday.

On Thursday afternoon, police responded to a call from citizens in the area of Tank St. and Pioneer Road in Logandale. The citizens had detained the suspect for allegedly attempting to steal a bike belonging to a resident of the area.

As police were approaching the scene, the man reportedly took off running into the surrounding Logandale neighborhoods to the east.

Four officers were called to the scene to assist in hunting for the suspect. Police canvassed the Logandale neighborhoods and received tips along the way from residents of the area.

“The help we received from the citizens in that neighborhood was wonderful,” said Metro Officer Nathan Bradford. “They were there for us and when they had sighted the suspect they let us know which way he had gone.”

Police thoroughly checked an underground flood control tunnel in the area but did not find the suspect there. The suspect eluded capture on Thursday evening.

Another adult male became involved when the suspect allegedly called his brother to the scene to assist him in his escape. The brother was observed by police riding a motorcycle on the State Highway near the Logandale Bridge going well in excess of the speed limit in the area.

He passed by two of the officers who instructed him to stop his vehicle and pull over. But the man reportedly sped by at high speed. A pursuit took place in which the man sped the motorcycle into the OHV trail system in the desert areas to the west and evaded police capture.

But the officers who spotted the man had recognized him as a local resident.

On Friday, police said that they made contact with this man informing him that he should turn himself in or a warrant would be filed for his arrest. The two suspects then turned themselves in to police.

The original suspect was arrested on charges of Petty Larceny and Obstruction of a Police Officer. He was transported to Clark County Detention Center.

The brother was cited for traffic violations and misdemeanors.
