Last week the southern 3A teams all played 4A schools from Vegas and went 2-1 in the week’s match ups.

Boulder City traveled to Eldorado and scored first when Steel ran for a twenty yard touchdown to give the Eagles their only lead of the night. It was a short one at that because, on the ensuing kick-off, the Sun Devils’ Nihipali returned the kick 74 yards to tie the score at 6.

Eldorado then scored two more touchdowns without extra points in the 3rd quarter to have an 18-6 lead moving into the 4th quarter.

Boulder scored one more touchdown to narrow the Sun Devil lead to six but couldn’t muster any more offence and were beaten 18-13.

The offence which rushed for 500 yards the week before against 2A The Meadows got only 69 against the Sun Devils while passing for 45.

Eldorado had 61 on the ground and 66 through the air.

Boulder City’s next week opponent is Green Valley in Boulder City. Green Valley who is 0-1 with their loss coming two weeks ago against Fountain Valley 52-49.

Virgin Valley traveled to Sierra Vista last Friday night and was held scoreless through the first half. The Mountain Lions didn’t do much better as they were also scoreless after the first half.

After a Mountain Lion fumble at their own 37 Virgin Valley quarterback Humberto Urias hit Kyle Tostenson for a 37 yard touchdown beginning a 22 point extravaganza for the Bulldogs. Urias hit Tostenson again for 3 yards and a score; then rushed for the 3rd score.

Sierra Vista tried hard to come back as Justin Green scored on an 80 yard run to narrow the gap. Taz Wilson hit Matt Murphy for a 15 yard score, but that was it. Virgin Valley 22-Sierra Vista 13.

The Virgin Valley ground game mustered up 96 yards rushing and Urias threw for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 6-16 throwing.

Virgin Valley 2-0 will host Shadow Ridge next week. Shadow Ridge was beaten by Faith Lutheran 29-16.

In the north, Truckee (1-0) beat Dayton (1-1) at Dayton: final score, 33-14. Quarterback Pat Shaffer threw for 133 yards and one touchdown. Dayton’s two touchdowns came from fumble recoveries taken back for touchdowns. One was 88 yards.

Truckee scored the first 20 points of the game which included Jake Petitte and his run of 98 yards for a score.

The Wolverines travel across the state to take on a stiff challenge next week in Elko.

Elko beat Fernley 33-15 in Elko. Francisco Livanos scored 4 Elko touchdowns the longest being 33 yards. Kenny Bradley rushed for 106 yards with two touchdowns for Fernley.

Jace Billingsley rushed for 196 yards and 4 touchdowns leading the Lowry Buckaroos (2-0) to a sound 48-7 win over Wooster 0-1 in Reno. Wooster never challenged the Buckaroo’s in the first game ever under lights at Wooster.

The top ranked Bucks will host South Tahoe 1-1 this week and should be 3-0.

In South Tahoe, Fallon destroyed the Vikings 53-14 opening a few eyes in the north. Shawntrell Hubbard rushed for 279 yards and three touchdowns to lead the green wave to victory. Fallon had touchdown runs of 50, 81 and 64 yards as it appeared South Tahoe gave up in the fourth quarter. Hubbard had the runs of 50 and 81. Fallon 1-0 will host Dayton 1-1 this week.

Spring Creek (1-0) played Sparks (0-2) in Sparks and defeated the Railroaders 50-29. Sparks took a 20-9 lead until the five minute mark in the first half before the Spartans took control and blew the game open.

Ryan Hoyos rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Spartans. Wooster will travel to Spring Creek for the Spartans home opener. Sparks 0-2 travels to Fernley 1-1.
