A First For MVHS Boys Soccer

Moapa Valley Progress
When was the last time the MVHS Boys’ soccer team started out the season with three wins? The answer to that is simple: never!
Well guess what, Moapa Soccer is now working on a three game win streak. They beat Basic 3-2 last week.
Dylan Smith scored the winner with under five minutes remaining for the upset victory. Manny Andanen and Arturo Gutierrez also scored goals and Gutierrez had an assist for Moapa.
Basic is 0-2 now after the loss.
Just the week before, the Pirates knocked off Chaparral who has a record of 1-2.
MVHS Soccer Coach Jerry Swanson feels the excitement as the kids work harder each practice. “They are riding a high where Pirate soccer has never been before,” he said.
Moapa’s defense has cut down the goals which were being scored against them last year, Swanson said.
Many teams put double digits on the board padding their stats in years past against the Pirates. But that’s not case this season.
So, Moapa has another football team with three wins. Pirate Soccer is in first place in the 3A with nine points over all. Boulder City is in second with 6 points while Virgin Valley has 4. The other schools in the league are the Meadows with 1 point and Adelson School with no points.
